Article: Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM)’s third entry for the Women’s Month article series, Beyond Lands and Seas: How women migrants in Asia Pacific build solidarity and resist oppression, highlights Sringatin from the Jaringan Buruh Migran Indonesia (JBMI, or Network of Indonesian Migrant Workers) and her concerns for migrant women in Hong Kong today such as visa discrimination and lack of support given to them.

Forum: The National Forum on Indonesian Situation was organised and conducted by Asia Pacific Interfaith Network on Migrants (AP INFORM), Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM), Churches Witnessing with Migrants (CWWM), together with the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (CCI), the Progressive Islamic Forum (PIF), Kabar Bumi, and the Beranda Migran in Jakarta last February 28 2024, in between the concluded Interfaith Conference on Service and Advocacy 2024 and prior to the start of the Churches Witnessing with Migrants (CWWM) 12th international Consultation. 

Panel Discussion: WBI Director Dr Bonny Ling presented a talk on ‘Refugee Protection in Japan and Taiwan: Common Challenges and Ways Forward for Human Security’, based on a book chapter co-authored with Mariko Hayashi, co-founder of BEBESEA as well as Executive Director of the Southeast and East Asian Centre (SEEAC) at the Annual Conference of the Association for Asian Studies 2024 hosted virtually and in Seattle on 22 March 2024. Public Discussion: Ali Reza Yawari, alumni of our 2023 Story Fellowship programme, spoke about the situation of refugees in Indonesia in a 5-minute video presentation shared with Australian politicians in the Federal Parliament, policy and decision makers, Western Sydney University and the public event in Australia. Policy Brief: WBI partnering with School of Law of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University just published a policy brief “Sustainability in Action: Strategies for Taiwanese Enterprises in a Changing Climate” sets out key challenges facing Taiwanese enterprises on issues of sustainability and economy, focusing on meeting Taiwan’s goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050. 

Webinar: Serve The People Association alongside Electronic Watch hosted a webinar on “Organising efforts among Taiwan’s migrant worker community” happening on 10th April 2024. Read more here to join.

Publication: Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM) has published a publication, “The Truth about Fair and Ethical Recruitment (FER): A Primer”, exploring what Fair and Ethical Recruitment (FER) is and some of the issues surrounding it in different area contexts namely, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.
